<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Vandiver Drive, Parker Street roundabout opens Dec. 19</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">S&A Equipment and Builders, the City of Columbia’s contractor for the new roundabout at Vandiver Drive and Parker Street, opened the roundabout to two-way traffic in all directions at 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 19. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">National and local studies show that roundabouts maintain traffic flow while reducing crashes by 40 percent, injury crashes by nearly 80 percent and fatal/disabling crashes by 90 percent. In a four-year period, there were 14 reported collisions at the intersection of Vandiver Drive and Parker Street with six reported injuries.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The project, when completed, includes splitter islands, sidewalks, crosswalks and additional street lights. The roundabout also has a truck apron to accommodate larger commercial vehicles and buses. The contractor is continuing to work to finish the sidewalks and street lighting in December, weather permitting. Intermittent lane restrictions, when necessary, will likely occur until the project is complete.</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes and detours whenever possible due to the likelihood of minor traffic delays during some portions of construction. Landscaping of the center island of the roundabout will be done by private volunteers as weather permits.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The roundabout was approved by the Columbia City Council on July 3, 2017 through the City’s public involvement process. Construction began on Aug. 27, 2019. The $900,000 project investment is funded by the 2018 County Road Tax Rebate and the 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax. </span></p>
