<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;">Police Chief Ken Burton submitted his resignation, effective January 3 at 5 p.m., to Interim City Manager John Glascock today. Chief Burton will remain on paid administrative leave until his resignation date.</p>
<p>The City provided two months separation pay in accordance with Section 19-102(e) and (f) of the City of Columbia Code of Ordinances.</p>
<p>As per departmental policy, Deputy Chief Jill Schlude will remain in the role as acting police chief until such time interim City Manager Glascock designates an interim chief of police. In the coming weeks, Glascock will be conducting a process to fill the interim chief of police.</p>
<p>A search for a permanent chief of police will not begin until after the Columbia City Council has installed a new city manager.</p>
<p>Chief Burton began his tenure with the Columbia Police Department in 2009.</p></div>
