<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Forum Boulevard, Green Meadows roundabout construction scheduled to begin July 8</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Beginning July 8, the City of Columbia Public Works Department plans to begin construction of a partial dual-lane roundabout at the intersection of </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Forum Boulevard and Green Meadows, weather permitting.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<br />
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Forum Boulevard is a four-lane divided road intersecting with Green Meadows, a two-lane street. This </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">intersection, which </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">was identified in the City of Columbia’s 10-year plan for the 2015 Capital Improvement Sales Tax, will increase safety and reduce congestion by removing the all-way stop and constructing the roundabout. National studies show that roundabouts reduce the types of crashes where people are seriously hurt or killed by 78% to 82% while maintaining or improving traffic flow. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Emery Sapp and Sons, Inc. is the contractor for the project, which is expected to take approximately 150 days to complete. Work will be done in phases to reduce the impact on traffic as much as possible. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Regular updates on the project’s progress will be posted on social media. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two interested parties meetings were held at local public schools on April 28, 2016, and June 27, 2017, to discuss the project with public hearings at City Council on Sept. 6, 2016, and Sept. 5, 2017, before being approved. A neighborhood meeting concerning traffic calming on Canterbury Drive and Scottson Way was held Sept. 18, 2018. The estimated investment is $1.2 million. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">City of Columbia Utilities has been busy </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">relocating utilities around the intersection in preparation for the project. In addition, traffic calming devices have been added to cut-through streets to discourage their use and to encourage motorists to use the signed detours and other major roads as alternate routes.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The roundabout will be constructed in several phases beginning with the west side of the intersection. Forum Boulevard will remain open during all phases of construction with revolving lane restrictions or closures possible on Green Meadows. </span></p>
<br />
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Before work on the roundabout begins, temporary paved crossovers will be installed on Forum Boulevard north of the Green Meadows intersection to funnel traffic to one lane each way during construction. Access to Green Meadows via Forum Boulevard will be closed on the west side of the intersection during the first phase of construction. However, neighborhoods to the west of the project will be able to access Forum Boulevard via Doral Drive.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Once the west side of the roundabout is complete, work will begin on the east side of the intersection. Details concerning work on the east side of the roundabout will be announced via press release and social media as the project progresses.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Longer than normal delays are likely during construction so motorists are encouraged to use other major roads as alternate routes whenever possible. When alternate routes are not possible, please be courteous to the construction workers who are diligently working to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.</span></p>
