(COLUMBIA, MO) -
A local media outlet has reported that members of the Columbia Police Department are searching the City of Columbia Regional Landfill for evidence involving the disappearance of Megan Schultz in 2006. This is currently not correct.

On Sunday, Aug. 4, Keith Comfort, 37, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin voluntarily reported disposing of the body of Megan Nicole Shultz, then 24, in August 2006 in a City-maintained solid waste dumpster in the 1700 block of Amelia Street. The contents of the dumpster would have been transported to the Regional Landfill on Peabody Road.

CPD detectives are currently talking with the City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility, which manages the landfill, in order to determine if the area where refuse was disposed in 2006 from this particular address can be narrowed down. For perspective, the landfill covers a permitted area of 107 acres, 16 acres have been closed, and currently, 91 acres is being utilized for disposal of trash. Additionally, detectives are researching the procedures that the landfill uses in order to determine if a search would be possible.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS to remain anonymous.
