<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:200%;"><h3 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 170%;">Columbia Regional Airport disaster drill to take place Aug. 14</h3>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Wednesday, Aug. 14, emergency response agencies from across Boone County will conduct a full-scale exercise from 4 until 6 p.m. at the Columbia Regional Airport. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This exercise will include live-action firefighting training and a mock aircraft that simulates an actual fire. Passersby may notice smoke coming from the area of the airport and those in the immediate area may see smoke and flames coming from the airport property; in addition, emergency vehicles will be in the area as if this were an actual response. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This training opportunity offers a real-life training environment for first responder agencies in Boone County to identify both strengths and weaknesses in their response protocols to aircraft emergencies. As with all airport operations, visitors are reminded to remain well away and outside of the fenced perimeter of the airport. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The airport will remain operational during the exercise and passengers will not experience any delays or detours due to this training. The FAA, general aviation traffic, and the airlines which serve COU are aware of the drill and will make the appropriate communications to their passengers and staff. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This exercise will include Columbia Regional Airport Public Safety, the City of Columbia Police and Fire departments, the Boone County Sheriff Department, Southern Boone County Fire Protection District, the Boone County Fire Protection District, University Healthcare Ambulance Service, Boone Hospital Ambulance Service, staff for Life Helicopter Service, Boone County Joint Communications (911) and the Boone County Office of Emergency Management.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A special thank you to the University of Missouri Fire Rescue Training Institute for providing the aircraft simulator and training instructors. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Media wishing to attend the event should report to Southern Boone County Fire Protection District Station 19 on Airport Drive between 3:30 and 4 p.m. where information and media escorts will be available. Additional information to media partners will be forthcoming. </span></p></div>
