<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">New City of Columbia plow drivers are scheduled to practice their designated snow routes on Wednesday, Nov. 6, during the annual Dry Snow Run. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"We’ve already had a winter event in October and we were able to cover that with an 8-member crew of experienced drivers," Street Superintendent Sam Thomas said. "Our veteran supervisors and drivers are available to mentor our newest drivers during this training and will continue to do so throughout the winter season."</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Dry Snow Run takes place at the Grissum Building, 1313 Lakeview Ave., and at the Leroy Anderson Salt Dome, 1101 Big Bear Blvd., before drivers begin practicing their routes around the city. As part of this training event, the Parking Utility will also be placing informational flyers on cars parked along </span><a href="https://www.como.gov/comosnow/priority-snow-routes/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">designated snow routes</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> to remind motorists that there is no parking along these routes when snow accumulates to 2 inches or more.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia has more than 1,350 lane miles of streets, including 1,100 cul-de-sacs. The high number of cul-de-sacs and lane miles makes it necessary to prioritize roads during ice and snow events. Streets are prioritized by volume of traffic and are designed to create a network of streets that connect neighborhoods to and from major roads, hospitals, schools, fire stations and commercial areas. These routes, referred to as designated snow routes or priority routes, are clearly marked with red, white and blue signs. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ultimate goal is for all City streets to be passable by a front-wheel-drive vehicle as soon as possible, beginning with priority routes. More details about the City’s procedures for plowing and treating city streets is available online at <a href="https://www.como.gov/CMS/pressreleases/CoMoSnow.com">CoMoSnow.com</a>.</span></p></div>
