<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia/Boone County WIC program continues to improve the nutritional health status of financially eligible women infants and children.</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><a href="https://www.como.gov/health/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS)</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> WIC Program, or the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program, provides supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to health care and community resources to participants. </span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.como.gov/health/wic/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Women, Infants and Children (WIC)</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is a special supplemental nutrition program providing services to pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children up to their 5th birthday, based on nutritional risk and income eligibility. The primary services provided are health screening, risk assessment, nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding promotion, and referrals to health care. Nutritious supplemental food is provided at no cost to participants.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Those interested in applying for the WIC Program can do so by calling 573.874.7384 or by stopping at the PHHS building at 1005 W. Worley in Columbia. To be eligible, an individual must:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be a pregnant woman; a breastfeeding woman who has had a baby in the last 12 months; a woman who has had a baby in the last six months; an infant; or a child up to the fifth birthday;</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Be a Missouri resident; and</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meet the income eligibility scale - the gross annual household income cannot exceed 185% of the Federal poverty income guidelines - All Medicaid, Food Stamp, and TANF recipients met the WIC income eligibility criteria.</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia/Boone County’s WIC Program currently averages over 30,000 visits per year and is a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic.
