<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia is monitoring and preparing to respond to winter weather that could impact the mid-Missouri area beginning early morning Saturday, Jan. 11. City resources will be utilized to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook expected to begin with rainfall on Friday along with the possibility for severe thunderstorms. A Flood Watch has also been issued but whether flooding will impact Columbia is not yet clear. If a roadway has water on it, motorists should find alternate routes. Beginning Saturday, the NWS says there is a possibility for snow and ice across Central Missouri. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The specific type and amount of winter precipitation, timing and locations are not yet certain. The Public Works Department is prepping snowplows, materials and equipment, monitoring local, state and regional forecasts, and preparing a response plan. City of Columbia Utilities is also monitoring the potential for severe weather affecting power lines.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As winter weather can be unpredictable, residents are encouraged to closely monitor the forecast and changing road conditions throughout the mid-Missouri area. Residents may want to run errands and shop for groceries early to avoid travel during inclement weather. </span></p>
