(COLUMBIA, MO) -
At approximately 1:11 a.m., on June 12, Columbia police arrested Morris McDonald, 34, Columbia, after McDonald collided into two vehicles on the corner of Bicknell and West Walnut Street.

Prior to the collision, officers conducted a traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle for multiple lane violations near the intersection of Business Loop and Providence Road. Officers learned that McDonald had an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic assault in the fourth-degree with a $5,000 bond. When the officer approached McDonald’s vehicle to take him into custody, he fled the scene of the traffic stop in his vehicle.

A vehicle pursuit was initiated, however, due to increasingly higher speeds in a residential area on Sexton and McBaine Avenue, the pursuit was terminated. Immediately after the termination, another officer witnessed McDonald’s vehicle traveling south on Bicknell Street from Ash Street.

When the second officer turned onto Bicknell Street, he observed McDonald's vehicle crash into two parked cars at the corner of Bicknell and West Walnut Street and witnessed the suspect flee from the vehicle on foot.

Officers were able to establish a perimeter, and with the assistance of a Boone County Sheriff's Department K-9, a track was conducted.

McDonald was located and apprehended in the backyard of a residence in the 400 block of West Walnut Street. Searches of McDonald and his vehicle yielded a significant quantity of heroin and a stolen handgun.

McDonald was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated and upon arrest will be charged with the following: Outstanding arrest warrant for domestic assault in the fourth degree; First-degree drug trafficking; stealing a firearm (possession); unlawful use of a weapon; unlawful possession of a firearm (felon in possession); felony leaving the scene of an accident; distribution of a controlled substance; and resisting arrest for a felony.

This is an ongoing investigation, there are no further details to provide at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
