<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Boone County reports new record-high for single day COVID-19 cases, July 8</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;">Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) announced that Boone County has reported its highest single-day increase of COVID-19 cases. Fifty-one new COVID-19 cases were reported as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2020. </p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are a total of 597 cases in Boone County. Please note that a case reported yesterday, July 7, has been reassigned to a different county. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There are currently 231 cases considered active, as well as 452 people in quarantine due to close contact. This is the highest number of cases and contacts in quarantine at one time. PHHS is working diligently to first contact all positive cases to provide isolation instructions and begin case investigations.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Due to the increase in cases, it may be several days before PHHS is able to identify and contact all those who were directly exposed to the virus. If you believe that you have been directly exposed to a case and have not yet been contacted by PHHS, please immediately begin to self-quarantine for 14 days. Instructions for quarantine for close contacts </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpVVokLBO6Y&feature=youtu.be"><span style="font-weight: 400;">can be found online</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Only those with direct exposure to a person infected with the virus (within six feet of the individual for a cumulative 15 minutes) will need to quarantine or be tested. PHHS will notify you if you are considered a direct contact and need to quarantine and provide instructions for when you should get tested. Contacts should get tested seven to nine days after their last exposure to the infected person. Getting tested too soon can result in a false-negative result. Even if a test is negative, contacts must quarantine for the full 14 day period. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should seek testing immediately. Orders for testing can be obtained by contacting your primary care physician, scheduling a virtual visit, or visiting an urgent care facility. Please notify your doctor or testing facility that you are experiencing symptoms before arriving for testing. If experiencing severe symptoms, please seek medical care immediately. If seeking medical care in person, please notify the health care facility before your arrival. </span></p>
