<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Responds to Increased Cases</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) announced that Boone County has reported its highest single-day number of new COVID-19 cases with 168, on Sept. 2, 2020. This makes the 7-day average of daily new cases 103.6, from Aug. 27 through Sept 2. <br /><br />Due to this increase in cases, it may take PHHS up to five days after receiving results before they are able to contact those who have tested positive. It could take an additional 24 hours after initial contact with the case to notify all close contacts. <br /><br />As a result of its partnership with PHHS, MU Student Health has been taking the lead on case investigations and contact tracing efforts of their students. Once a case is identified as an MU student, they are assigned to MU Student Health for case investigation. As they are identified, MU students are sent an email with isolation instructions, and a member of
  the MU CARE team connects with the student to ensure they are receiving the support they need while they are sick. <br /><br />All individuals waiting for test results should isolate at home until they receive results. Those who test positive must continue to isolate, as they can transmit the virus to others. Isolation includes staying home from work, school and not participating in all other activities outside of the home. Those who test positive should also begin compiling a list of close contacts to provide to PHHS for contact tracing efforts. <br /><br />Close contacts are defined as those within 6 feet of a person who tested positive for COVID-19 for more than 15 cumulative minutes or had personal contact with them, such as a handshake or a hug, during their infectious period. The infectious period is considered to start two days before symptoms began, or two days before testing positive if asymptomatic. In most situations, individuals are still considered close contact
