(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia Utilities department is requesting public feedback regarding the relocation of a refuse compactor on the Wabash Bus Station property. As part of the City's public involvement process for capital projects and because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Solid Waste Utility is holding an online interested parties (IP) meeting from Monday, March 29, 2021, through Sunday, April 11, 2021, at https://www.como.gov/utilities/solidwaste/wabash-compactor/.

To enhance services in the Downtown Community Improvement District, the Solid Waste Utility wishes to consolidate refuse collection facilities in the North Village Arts District. The project involves eliminating an 8-yard trash container from an alleyway off Orr Street and relocating a trash compactor from the southwest corner to the northeast corner of the Wabash Bus Station property as shown in the project plans below. This work also includes the installation of signage, a new compactor enclosure and landscaping.

Investment for this project is estimated at $75,000 and will be paid for by Solid Waste enterprise revenues.

The online comment period will run from March 29 to April 11. During this time, citizens may review preliminary plans, contact Utilities staff with questions and comments and complete the IP Comment Form.

Utilities staff may be contacted via the Solid Waste Utility's number at 573.874.2489 or via email
at Waste-Mgmt@CoMo.gov. The completed IP comment form may be submitted via email or mailed to the City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility Department, P.O. Box 6015, Columbia, Missouri 65205.
