<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia City Manager John Glascock issued the following statement on Thursday, April 29, regarding the 98th anniversary of the lynching of James T. Scott.<br /><br />"April 29 marks the 98th anniversary of the 1923 lynching of James Scott, a Columbia man and employee of the University of Missouri at the time. <br /><br />Today we remember this senseless attack that happened in our own community when an angry mob ended the life of a man without his day in court based on the color of his skin.<br /><br />This afternoon the Community Remembrance Project of Boone County Missouri and members of our community gathered three jars of soil at the site of the lynching. These jars will be on display locally, as well as in Kansas City and Montgomery, Alabama.<br /><br />These discussions around the events of our past are an important step toward moving forward. Having constructive and open conversat
 ions around the history of racism in Columbia will help us confront the challenges we face today."</div>
