<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Tuesday, May 25, 2021 marks one year since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Columbia Mayor Brian Treece and City Manager John Glascock released the following statement around the anniversary of Floyd’s death. <br /><br />"Today we remember the painful death of George Floyd. Although his death did not occur in Columbia, we know the impacts were still felt in our community. It is important that, even as time passes, we do not give up in the fight for justice, and we continue to have these difficult conversations in our own community as well. While we take today to remember the death of George Floyd, we hope all of us can take time to reflect on the values we strive to uphold in our community daily and remember that we can learn from each other’s different lived experiences. <br /><br />The actions that led to Floyd’s death do not reflect the values of the C
 ity of Columbia and actions similar to those will not be tolerated. The City will continuously work to create an inclusive environment where all residents feel safe, regardless of their skin color, through training and policy. We encourage members of our community to read the Principles of Community the City Council unanimously adopted in 2018 and Columbia strives to follow every day: <a href="https://www.como.gov/principles-of-community/">https://www.como.gov/principles-of-community/</a>."</div>
