<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Third dose of COVID-19 vaccine approved for those moderately to severely immunocompromised</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The CDC recently approved an additional dose of Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised. The third dose is not currently approved for the general public.<br /><br />Those currently eligible for the additional COVID-19 vaccine include people who have: <br />
<ul>
<li>Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood.</li>
<li>Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system.</li>
<li>Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system.</li>
<li>Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome).</li>
<li>Advanced or untreated HIV infection.</li>
<li>Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response.</li>
</ul>
<br />Individuals should talk to their health care provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.<br /><br />If a person qualifies for the third dose due to one of the conditions listed above, they may go to a local vaccinator to seek the third dose. Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) requires individuals to sign an attestation stating that they qualify for a third dose. The additional dose should be the same brand as the initial doses. A list of local vaccinators and upcoming vaccination clinics can be found at <a href="http://www.CoMo.gov/CovidVaccine">CoMo.gov/CovidVaccine</a>. An individual should present their CDC COVID-19 vaccination card at the time of third dose vaccination. <br /><br />PHHS is aware of reports that the U.S. plans to recommend a third dose of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to the general public 8 months after the second dose.<br /><br />Until an addition
 al dose is approved by the federal and state governments for those who do not already qualify under the CDC’s definition of moderately to severely immunocompromised, PHHS will not administer the third dose to the general public. If approval is given, PHHS will make information available about where to receive the additional dose. </div>
