<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Regional Airport runway extension project nearing completion</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Regional Airport’s (COU) runway extension is close to being complete. The extension of the primary runway will allow for longer landing and takeoff distances. This increased runway distance will lead to fewer delays due to heat and inclement weather and will benefit larger aircraft. <br /><br />The project, which began in April, will extend the runway from 6,500 to 7,400 feet and has an estimated cost of $9 million, funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. In addition to the extension, new LED lightning will be installed for the entirety of the runway. This efficient lighting will save approximately 75% of energy costs compared to the current incandescent lighting used. <br /><br />"The runway extension will allow aircraft to land during inclement weather and will lead to fewer capacity restrictions on hot days," says airport manager Michael Parks. "In 
 conjunction with the opening of the new COU terminal, we look forward to an improved passenger experience for those traveling in and out of Columbia Regional Airport."  <br /><br />"Though the runway extension project has led to some intermittent delays, we are excited to provide a more robust service to our passengers as the project is completed," says Economic Development Director Stacey Button. <br /><br />Columbia Regional Airport continues to have conversations with the airlines through the duration of the project to help minimize impact to passengers. </div>
