(COLUMBIA, MO) - After review, recommendation, and authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccinations are now recommended for children ages 5 to 11.

At this time, Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) has not received Pfizer vaccine doses for the 5 to 11 age group.

PHHS plans to begin school-based COVID-19 vaccination clinics the week of Nov. 15 at some Boone County schools. This includes participating public elementary schools, middle schools and high schools in Boone County along with participating private schools. Parents with questions about their school’s participation in the clinics are encouraged to contact their school nurse. Parental consent forms are required for anyone under the age of 18 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

PHHS will have app
ointment-only COVID-19 vaccination clinics at the office, 1005 W. Worley St., on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. These clinics will be for anyone who needs any dose in the series (first, second, third or booster dose) of the Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Individuals 5 years old and older are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are available for individuals aged 18 and older. Appointments are required and can be scheduled here: CoMo.gov/Health/Covid19-Vaccine-Appointments. Vaccines are free and do not require health insurance.

Anyone getting a booster dose vaccine at a PHHS clinic should bring their vaccination card and will be required to sign an attestation form stating they are eligible to receive the booster vaccination based on the qualifying factors. Residents with questions about their qualifying factors should
speak to their health care provider. Information about booster dose eligibility can be found here: https://www.como.gov/CMS/pressreleases/view.php?id=7750.

A list of other Boone County vaccinators can be found by visiting CoMo.gov/CovidVaccine.
