City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs to receive $150,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the American Rescue Plan

(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs has received notification from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) that its grant application for the American Rescue Plan (ARP): Grants to Local Arts Agencies for Subgranting program is recommended for funding in the amount of $150,000. Pending City Council approval, these funds will be available for local 501(c)(3) arts organizations to apply to receive grant funding. These funds are separate from and in addition to the $25 million that the City received earlier this year.

The Office of Cultural Affairs plans to use the ARP funds from the NEA to create a subgranting program that would complement its Annual Arts Funding program, which is focused on project support rather than operations. The ARP funds can go towards arts organizations’ personnel, stipends for artists, facilities, health and safety supplies, and marketing and promotional costs.

"The overall goal is to help in the economic recovery of our local arts organizations by strengthening the capacity to fulfill their missions," stated Sarah Dresser, manager of the Office of Cultural Affairs. "When agencies can better meet their essential operational needs, they can focus more efforts on programming and outreach to underserved communities."

In total, the NEA will award grants totaling $20,200,000 to 66 local arts agencies nationwide for subgranting. For more information on the NEA’s American Rescue Plan grants, visit arts.gov/COVID-19/the-american-rescue-plan.

The Office of Cultural Affairs will open applications to local arts organizations in February 2022. More information will be released as it is available. Information can also be found on its website at CoMo.gov/arts in the "Arts Funding" section.
