<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department rescues two from overnight house fire</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022 at 02:19 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department was called to respond to 206 E. Burnam Road for a reported residential structure fire.<br /><br />The first fire crew arrived 5 minutes later and encountered heavy fire conditions from the attached garage of a two-story residence. Crews searched the interior of the home and began an aggressive interior fire attack with preconnected hose lines.<br /><br />The residence had been divided into two separate living units.  Occupants in unit "A" were awakened by the smell of smoke and made their way to the exterior prior to fire crews arriving.  Occupants in unit "B" were asleep and unaware of the fire until discovered and removed to the exterior by fire crews.  There were no injuries to any occupants or fire crews.<br /><br />The incident was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes.<br /><b
 r />Assistant Fire Marshal Walter Goodman responded to the incident and determined the fire originated in the attached garage of unit "B."  The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage to the structure is estimated at $30,000. <br /><br />Ten crews from The Columbia Fire Department and two EMS assets responded to this incident.<br /><br />During the investigation, it was determined the smoke alarms present in both units of the residence were not in operational condition.  The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives.  Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep.  Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button.  Change your smoke alarm batteries at least once per year.</div>
