<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - A major winter storm, beginning the night of Feb. 1, could affect some travel, power and services in Columbia. City officials will utilize all available resources in responding to the storm and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community members. <br /><br />Updates will continue to be posted to CoMo.gov, as well as the City’s various social media accounts. <br /><br />The CoMo.gov live chat is open for after-hours questions until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. <br /><br /><strong>Roads</strong><br /><strong><em>Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</em></strong><br /><br />A 33-person City of Columbia Public Works plow crew will be reporting for duty at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1. Around midnight, rain is expected to change into sleet, causing the potential for slickness. Crews will respond by applying treatment to priority roads, as well as to bridges, intersections a
nd hills.<br /><br />As snow begins to fall and accumulate throughout the overnight period, crews will begin to plow priority roads into a passable state. Motorists are advised to avoid travel if at all possible during this and all active winter weather events. If you’re required to travel, please keep your speed low and exercise prudent winter weather driving skills.<br /><br />Once accumulations reach 2 inches, vehicles are expected to avoid parking on priority roads. Residents are encouraged to avoid parking on priority roads on Tuesday night, and can receive notifications when we reach 2 inches of accumulation by texting their zip code to 888.777 for text alerts.<br /><br />Public Works and City staff will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. Additional updates will be available via press release, on the City's social media pages and at CoMoSnow.com.<br /><br /><strong>Electric Utility</strong><br /><em><strong>Contact:

The strong winds and weight of snow and ice on power lines and tree limbs could cause sporadic power outages.<br /><br /><strong>Transit</strong><br /><strong><em>Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</em></strong><br /><br />All fixed-route and paratransit bus services have been canceled for Wednesday, Feb. 2. Conditions will be monitored and a decision will be made on Wednesday morning to resume services on Thursday, Feb 3.<br /><br /><strong>Public Health</strong><br /><em><strong>Contact: Sarah Humm, Sarah.Humm@CoMo.gov </strong></em><br /><br />Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, 1005 W. Worley, will be closed to the public Wednesday, Feb. 2, and Thursday, Feb. 3. COVID-19 work will continue and the Information Hub will be updated both days.<br /><br />Animal Control will respond
to extreme emergencies only, such as a vicious dog running loose, a gravely injured animal or a bat inside a home. Reports can be made by calling 573.449.1888. Response times may be delayed depending on road conditions. <br /><br />WIC and clinic staff were able to reach many residents with appointments to reschedule. Anyone with questions about WIC can email WIC@CoMo.gov or call 573.874.7384 on Friday. Anyone with questions about the clinic can email ClinicSupport@CoMo.gov or call 573.874.7249 on Friday. <br /><br />Residents seeking social services can call 573.817.6430 or email <a href="mailto:SocialServices@CoMo.gov">SocialServices@CoMo.gov</a>.<br /><br />Immediate printing of birth and death certificates will be unavailable while the building is closed. Residents can visit vitalchek.com to order online.<br /><br />The following daytime warming centers are planning to be open regardless of weather conditions. Others may be open or closed and it is recommended
to check with the location before going.<br />
<ul>
<li>Turning Point will extend its operating hours from the normal 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to include 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.</li>
<li>The Salvation Army Harbor House is planning to be open both days.</li>
<li>The Wabash Bus Station will also be open as an emergency overnight warming center from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Tuesday, Feb. 1, through Friday, Feb. 4.</li>
</ul>
<strong>Public Safety</strong><br /><strong><em>Contact: PolicePIO@CoMo.gov</em></strong><br /><br />As winter weather can be unpredictable, residents are encouraged to closely monitor the forecast and changing road conditions throughout the mid-Missouri area. Residents may want to run errands and shop for groceries early to avoid travel during inclement weather. </div>
