<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - A major winter storm began overnight and is impacting some travel and other services in Columbia. City officials will utilize all available resources in responding to the storm and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community members. <br /><br />Updates will continue to be posted to CoMo.gov, as well as the City's various social media accounts. The CoMo.gov live chat is open for after-hours questions until 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. <span style="font-weight: 400;">The Utility Customer Service and cashiering offices are open, but with limited staffing. Residents are encouraged to call the City's Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489) before visiting City Hall. </span><br /><br />Cancellations/Postponements:<br /><br />

<br /><strong>Roads</strong><br /><em><strong>Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</strong></em><br /><br />At 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, a 32-person City of Columbia Public Works plow crew reported for duty, relieving the 33-person crew who had been working since late Tuesday night. The 7 a.m. crew will continue to focus on keeping first and second priority roads in a passable state. Crews will continue to work in 12-hour shifts.<br /><br />Because accumulations are now in excess of 2 inches, parking on snow routes has been prohibited. If you are parked on a snow route, please move your car to a non-priority route, or best of all, off the road entirely. Doing so will allow plow drivers the space needed to do their work quickly, efficiently and safely. Road temperatures will be below freezing for the duration of this event, creating very slick roads and hazardous travel conditions. If motorists must travel, please be patient while driving and allow for extra time. Most importantly, keep your speed low, stay alert and be prepared to react to rapidly changing conditions.<br /><br />Public Works and City staff will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. <li>Turning Point will extend its operating hours from the normal 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to include 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.</li>
<li>The Salvation Army Harbor House is planning to be open both days.</li>
<li>The Wabash Bus Station will also be open as an emergency overnight warming center from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. from Tuesday, Feb. 1, through Friday, Feb. 4.</li>

The department urges drivers to use extreme caution if travel is necessary.
