<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - City officials continue to utilize all available resources in responding to winter weather and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community members. <br /><br />Updates will continue to be posted to CoMo.gov, as well as the City’s various social media accounts. <br /><br /><br /><strong>Roads</strong><br /><strong>Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</strong><br /> <br />City of Columbia Public Works currently has a 70-person snow response crew on duty which reported to work at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3. Work crews are using dump trucks to haul snow out of the downtown Columbia area, and plow crews are continuing to plow and treat residential neighborhoods. <br /><br />Public Works management expects that all residential streets will be plowed to a passable state by Friday evening, but staff will have a better understanding of the time frame after reviewing the progress of
the overnight plow crew. Because road salt loses a great deal of its effectiveness in single-digit temperatures, crews will have to rely primarily on physically plowing the snow, which can take additional time to perform effectively.<br /><br />Crews began to haul off snow from the downtown area on the evening of Feb. 3 and would like to advise residents not to climb on the piles of snow. Additionally, if you are driving downtown and encounter trucks and backhoes working, please find another route around them and refrain from trying to drive through the work area.<br /><br />Residents are cautioned to drive well below the speed limit and to be wary of unseen patches of ice, both when walking and driving. Please stay indoors tonight if at all possible and give plow crews the time and space they need to work. Additionally, if you have the option, please park in your driveway and not on the road, which allows plow crews the opportunity to plow roadways quickly, safely and more e
fficiently for everyone. Motorists have done an excellent job of complying with our request not to park on snow routes, and Public Works appreciates the cooperation of the community in this regard.<br /><br /><br /><strong>Parks and Recreation</strong><br /><strong>Contact: Tammy Miller, Tammy.Miller@CoMo.gov</strong><br /><br />Columbia Parks and Recreation will reopen these indoor recreation facilities for normal operating hours on Friday, Feb. 4:<br /><br />Activity & Recreation Center (ARC), 1701 W. Ash <br /><br />Columbia Sports Fieldhouse, 4251 Philips Farm Road.<br /><br />Some group fitness and aquatics classes at the ARC may be canceled on Friday due to instructor availability.
