<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The City of Columbia Parks and Recreation department is holding an exhibit and planning two events to commemorate Black History Month. All activities are free, and the public is welcome to attend.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An African American history exhibit is available on weekdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., throughout the month of February. The display is open at the Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash; individuals and groups are welcome to view the exhibit.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The film, "Southside With You" will be shown at 6 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Armory. The movie gives an imaginative portrayal of the first date between a young Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Black History Month will continue with the annual Gospel Explosion and Soul Food Dinner. It will be held at 4 p.m. on Feb. 27 at St. Luke UMC, 204 E. Ash. This year’s program will feature gospel artists and groups from the central Missouri area. Following performances, carry-out soul food meals will be available.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said Black History Month is a time to recognize the accomplishments of Black Americans, including past and present members of our own community.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"There are many examples from Columbia’s history that highlight the accomplishments and struggles faced by African Americans," Seewood said. "I invite all of our residents to take part in and celebrate this month’s activities being hosted by the City and other community partners."</span></p>
