<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <strong>Roads and Public Transit</strong><br /><strong>Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov</strong><br /><br /><br />The City of Columbia Public Works will have a 37-person plow crew reporting for duty at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 to respond to the arrival of winter weather. Current expectations are for rain to transition into freezing rain prior to sunrise on Thursday, and motorists should be aware of the potential for slickness as this changeover occurs. Please drive slowly and be prepared to react to rapidly changing conditions.<br /><br />Crews will focus their initial efforts on the treatment of first and second priority roads. Current projections are for 3 to 7 inches of accumulation, with precipitation expected to end by Thursday evening.<br /><br />Whenever snow accumulates more than 2 inches, any vehicle parked on a designated snow route must be moved off of the roadway or risk a fine
of $100 plus towing and storage charges. The purpose of this rule is to allow plow drivers the space needed to do their work more quickly, efficiently and safely for everyone. Buses will run until 6 p.m. Public Works will continue to monitor changing winter weather conditions and will provide service updates on social media and in the announcements section of the Go COMO app.<br /><br />Public Works and City staff will continue to closely monitor road conditions and adjust operational plans as needed. r /><br /><br />Columbia Police headquarters will be open on Thursday, Feb. 17 and officers are responding to calls.<br /><br />The Department urges drivers to use extreme caution if travel is necessary.
