(COLUMBIA, MO) - Street
Contact: John Ogan, John.Ogan@CoMo.gov

A 29-person Public Works snow plow crew reported for duty at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17. Their primary focus will be on plowing first, second and third priority routes to a passable state: at least one travel lane is accessible for a front wheel drive vehicle at driving speeds well below the normal posted speed limits. They will then shift their focus to residential areas as conditions dictate. Crews working in residential areas will plow using an outside-in approach, meaning they will start with the exterior portions of Columbia and work inward toward the downtown area. This approach is alternated with each winter weather event in order to provide equitable service to all residents.

This particular winter weather event did not produce the quantity of snow necessary to require crews to
haul snow from the downtown area overnight.

Operational effectiveness late tonight will depend on how routes react to plowing and treatment. Temperatures after midnight on Friday are forecast to fall into single digits, at which point salt has a diminished effect.

A 31-person snow plow crew is expected to report for duty at 7 a.m. Friday morning. Warmer air is forecast to move in Friday accompanied by sunshine, which will work to activate road salt and improve road conditions. The restriction on parking on snow routes will likely be lifted at some point during the day on Friday. Until then, please continue to refrain from parking on priority roads. Doing so allows our drivers the ability to plow roads quickly and efficiently.

Please continue to avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. If you must drive, please do so slowly and provide sufficient space between vehicles.

Transit

As a remi
nder, Go COMO transit service is expected to resume Friday, Feb. 18 at its normal time of 6 a.m. We will provide any further updates via social media, press releases and via the Go COMO website and app.

Parks and Recreation
Contact: Tammy Miller, Tammy.Miller@CoMo.gov

Columbia Parks and Recreation will open the following indoor recreation facilities at 9 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 18:

Activity & Recreation Center (ARC), 1701 W. Ash
Hillcrest Community Center, 1907 Hillcrest Dr.
Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash
Columbia Sports Fieldhouse, 4251 Philips Farm Road

The delayed opening will allow staff to clear parking lots and walkways for the public. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 573.874.7460.

Contacting the City of Columbia

The CoMo.gov live chat will be open for after-hours questions until
