(COLUMBIA, MO) -
On Thursday, February 24 at 11:59 a.m., the Columbia Fire Department was called to respond to the 1400 block of Creasy Springs Road for a reported commercial structure fire.

The first fire crew arrived 4 minutes later and encountered heavy fire and smoke conditions from approximately 20 individual units of a multi-unit self-storage building. Crews received reports of possible victims inside the units and began aggressive fire attack operations with preconnected hose lines.

At 12:10 p.m., the incident commander upgraded to a second alarm, bringing three additional fire crews plus a breathing air resupply vehicle to the scene.

The incident was brought under control in approximately 2 hours. No victims were located during the firefighting operation.

Fire investigators responded to the incident and performed an origin and cause investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation and damage to the structure is estimated at $175,000. Additional details will be released as they become available.

Fifteen crews from The Columbia Fire Department and two University of Missouri EMS assets responded to this incident.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time.
