City of Columbia plow crews continue to respond to ongoing winter weather event; Go COMO bus service operating on Saturday schedule March 11

(COLUMBIA, MO) - A 28-person City of Columbia Public Works crew will be reporting for duty at 7 a.m. on Friday, March 11 to respond to an ongoing winter weather event. They will be relieving the 23-person overnight crew, and their primary focus will continue to be on keeping first and second priority roads in a passable state. Passable means that although a street may still be snow packed, at least one travel lane is accessible for a front wheel drive vehicle at driving speeds well below the normal posted speed limits.

Public Works recorded snowfall accumulations of 5 inches during the current winter weather event. Whenever snow accumulates more than 2 inches, any vehicle parked on a designated snow route must be moved off of the roadway or risk a fine of $100 plus towing and storage charges. This critical ordinance allows plow drivers the space needed to do their work more quickly, efficiently and safel
y for everyone. Snow routes can be identified by looking for the red, white and blue snow route signs or by checking the priority route viewer map found at CoMoSnow.com. To be notified when it snows 2 inches or more and again when you may resume parking on snow routes, please sign up for alerts at Nixle.com or by texting your zip code to 888-777.

When traveling, please exercise prudent winter weather driving techniques, especially on untreated roads. This includes staying alert, keeping your speed low, giving yourself extra braking distance and refraining from tailgating.

On March 11, Go COMO transit services will operate on the alternating schedule typically used on Saturdays. This means that after completing its initial route, a bus will then switch to a different route. Once completed, the bus will then return to its original route and will continue to alternate in this
fashion. Passengers are encouraged to use the Go COMO app, which uses GPS to track the position of buses in real time.

Additional updates will be available via press release, on the City's social media pages and at CoMoSnow.com.
