<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Fire Department responds to two residential structure fires on Monday, March 14</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">On Monday, March 14 at 5:43 p.m., the Columbia Fire Department was called to respond to the 400 block of North Eighth Street for reports of a commercial structure fire. Crews received reports of a fire on the exterior of a residence. The first crew arrived less than 2 minutes later and located light smoke coming from the exterior of the structure. Fire crews deployed a preconnected hose line to extinguish a small area of fire. A Columbia fire marshal was called to the scene to perform a cause and origin investigation and located a malfunction in an electrical source as the cause of the fire. Damage is estimated at $30,000. The fire was brought under control in approximately 20 minutes</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The second incident occurred in the 5600 block of Godas Circle. Columbia Fire crews were called to respond to a reported structure fire at 5:54 p.m. The first crew arrived at 6:00 p.m. and found fire and smoke visible from the roof of a multi-family residence. The crew deployed a preconnected hose line and began an aggressive interior fire attack. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">As additional personnel and equipment arrived, fire crews established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant and used additional preconnected hose lines to attack the fire. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">A Columbia fire marshal was called to the scene to perform a cause and origin investigation and found the failure of an unattended heat lamp which ignited nearby combustible items. Damage is estimated at $135,000. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The fire was brought under control in approximately 45 m
inutes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A total of fifteen crews from the Columbia Fire Department as well as advanced life-support EMS assets from The University of Missouri Hospital Center and Boone Hospital Center responded to this incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There were no civilian or fire personnel injuries during either incident.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Columbia Fire Department reminds residents that smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms should be placed on every level of your home and outside of places where people sleep. Check your smoke alarms monthly by pressing the test button. Change your smoke alarm batteries at least twice per year when adjusting your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. Replace any smoke alarm over ten (10) years old.</span></p></div>
