<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones released the following statement on May 3, 2022, regarding the Special Prosecutor’s decision in an officer-involved shooting in the 10 block of N. Fifth Street, Nov. 14, 2021:<br /><br />"On May 3, 2022, I received a copy of St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar’s decision relating to events that occurred when Columbia Police officers intervened to protect members of the public from harm caused by individuals exchanging gunfire. In that encounter, officers discharged their firearms. Quillan E. Jacobs, a suspect, suffered fatal injuries during the incident.<br /><br />Following standard protocol, immediately after the event investigations were conducted by the Department’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Mr. Lohmar was appointed special prosecutor at the request of Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Knig
ht. This, too, is a standard practice to avoid conflicts of interest.<br /><br />In his report review memo, Special Prosecutor Lohmar states that he does not intend to pursue any charges against the officers involved in the incident or request any additional investigations.<br /><br />At this time, Columbia Police are not aware of the results of any ballistics investigation or autopsy. Now that this phase of the review has concluded, we will work toward resolution of the Department’s Internal Affairs investigation."<br /><br />
