<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Police have arrested Jaron Gates, 25, of Columbia, for unlawful use of a weapon, felony resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and a federal parole warrant for possession of a weapon.<br /><br />On May 6 at approximately 1:30 a.m. officers responded to a report of a male brandishing a firearm in the 900 block of Business Loop 70. During the investigation, officers made contact with a male suspect who then fled in a vehicle. Officers followed for approximately one mile before terminating the pursuit. <br /><br />Through further investigation, officers were able to identify the male who fled as Gates. It was learned Gates had a federal parole warrant for possession of a weapon.<br /><br />Columbia Police located Gates in the 1700 block of Burlington Street. He again fled from officers, barricading himself inside a thick wooded area. Officers set up a perimeter
  around the area and were able to peacefully negotiate Gates’ surrender after a standoff that lasted approximately one hour.<br /><br />The Columbia Police Department was assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department in this arrest.<br /><br />This is an ongoing investigation. More information may become available at a later time.<br /><br />If you know something, say something. Columbia Police are asking for your help. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652. To report a tip without including your name or contact information, call CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477). A tip that leads to an arrest or helps solve a felony crime could result in a cash reward.<br /> <br />
