<p><strong>Basketball Returns for First Time Since 2017</strong></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Columbia, MO - June 15, 2022 - The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) announced host communities for multiple statewide events Wednesday. The Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau (Columbia CVB), Columbia Sports Commission, and local partner organizations submitted proposals for four competitions and were awarded all four. Columbia will host:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-MSHSAA State Basketball Championships (2023/24 through 2027/28)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-MSHSAA State Boys Wrestling Championships (2024/25 through 2028/29)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships (2024/25 through 2028/29)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">-MSHSAA State Music Festival (2024/25 through 2028/29)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Cross Country, Boys Wrestling, and State Music Festival are currently hosted by Columbia, and Basketball returns to the community after a multi-year absence. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"The opportunity to host these MSHSAA events is so important to our tourism industry, which is a vital local economic driver," said Columbia CVB Director Amy Schneider. "Our entire community understands the importance of bringing these students to Columbia and came together to help support these proposals."</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Cross Country proposal was submitted in partnership with the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation Department. The Music Festival proposal was submitted in partnership with the University of Missouri School of Music. The Basketball and Boys Wrestling proposals were submitted in partnership with the University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Additionally, community sponsors have pledged significant financial support for the Basketball and Boys Wrestling proposals. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"Projects like these MSHSAA bids show the importance of local partnerships to achieve great things," said Columbia City Manager De'Carlon Seewood. "We look forward to hosting students and fans from all over Missouri during these events." </span></p>
