<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - On Thursday, July 7, Columbia Police arrested Malachi Nathan Benton, 24, of Marshall, for first-degree assault and resisting arrest for a felony.<br /><br />The arrest is connected to an incident that occurred July 7 at approximately 11:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of East Broadway, when an officer responded to a report of an individual, later identified as Benton, blocking the street with thrown items.<br /><br />The officer arrived on scene and observed Benton throwing objects onto the roadway. The officer approached Benton and attempted to speak with him, at which point Benton attacked the officer and attempted to take his equipment, including his firearm.<br /><br />Benton fled after struggling with the officer. Following the arrival of additional officers at the scene, a search was conducted, and Benton was located in a deep creek bed behind the property.<br /><br />Both the suspect and officer w
ere transported to a local hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported. <br /><br />Benton was remanded to custody of the Boone County Jail.<br /><br />The investigation is ongoing and more information may become available at a later time.<br /><br />If you know something, say something.
