(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs hosted the annual Celebration of the Arts fundraiser for the Columbia Arts Fund Aug. 31, 2022 at Jesse Hall. The event was hosted by Lili Vianello and John Shrum. At the event, the 2022 City of Columbia Commemorative Poster was unveiled along with a special recognition made to a member of the arts community.

Each year since 1992, the City of Columbia has produced an annual Commemorative Poster to communicate the vitality and beauty of Columbia. Artist Sarah Nguyen's hand-cut paper artwork titled "Devorah-Bee'' was unveiled as this year's Commemorative Poster. Nguyen is a mixed media artist, working primarily with paper. Storytelling is central to this work. The blade-cut, intricate composition for the Commemorative Poster features a landscape with symbolic motifs - flora, fauna and an ever-changing moon - to elicit childhood memories of myt
hs, fables and folklore. The poster is available for purchase for $20 each at the Convention and Visitor's Bureau located in the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence. Previous year's posters are also available for $10 each.

Since 2015, the City has also paid special recognition to a member of the arts community, a volunteer or staff member who has made a significant impact to one of the City's funded arts organizations. Out of the many worthy submissions, the Office of Cultural Affairs was thrilled to recognize Diana Moxon for her contributions to the arts with a presentation made by Mayor Barbara Buffaloe.

Diana Moxon is the host and producer of a weekly in-depth arts radio show, Speaking of the Arts on Columbia's KOPN community radio station, 89.5FM. Her entry into the arts started in 2007 when, new to Columbia, she took over the reins of the Columbia Art League (CAL) and spent 11 years as its Executive Director, curating the gallery's shows and organizi
ng the annual Art in the Park festival. Despite retiring from CAL, Diana is still curating shows and artworks at Central Bank of Boone County and the ACA Business Club.

Diana also currently serves on the Board of Directors for GreenHouse Theatre Project. Nominated by Co-Founder and Artistic Director Elizabeth Braaten Palmieri, who states, "Her passion to support the arts is contagious and she has introduced friends from all over the globe to the work we are doing here in mid-Missouri. We are so thankful that this expat chooses to call Columbia her home."
