<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The Columbia Police Department will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at its Regional Training Center, 5001 Meyer Industrial Drive.<br /><br />While part of the Department’s ongoing recruitment drive, the event also will provide a chance for anyone in the community to learn more about CPD’s operations.<br /><br />"This is not only a prime recruiting opportunity, but also a great chance to connect with the community," said Acting Police Chief Jeremiah Hunter. "People can stop by, learn more about what we do on a daily basis and get a different perspective on law enforcement."<br /><br />Representatives from the Department’s SWAT team, Crisis Negotiation Team, K-9 Unit, Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators will be present to discuss their roles and answer questions.<br /><br />Attendees will have the opportuni
 ty to get a closer look at the Department’s BearCat SWAT vehicle and mobile command posts, as well as activities such as a K-9 demonstration. Light refreshments will be available.<br /><br />The open house is the latest in a series of initiatives aimed at addressing the Department’s staffing shortage. As a result of a months-long recruitment campaign, the Department swore in nine new officers in August and has an additional six recruits in the Law Enforcement Training Institute’s fall academy.<br /><br />For more information, contact Robert Bennett at 573.874.7422 or Robert.Bennett@CoMo.gov.</div>
