(COLUMBIA, MO) -
The City of Columbia will host its 11th Operation Clean Neighborhoods event Friday, Sept. 23. Operation Clean Neighborhoods gives City employees the opportunity to volunteer part of their work day to cleaning street curbs and sidewalks, picking up litter along streets, painting street markings, clearing vegetation and working in parks.

This year, more than 70 City employees have volunteered to take part in Operation Clean Neighborhoods. This is the first such event since September 2019, when efforts were paused during the pandemic.

Staff will focus on the streets and sidewalks bounded by Wilkes Boulevard (north), Eighth Street (east), Park Avenue (south), Providence Road (west) and the interior streets within this boundary. Drivers are
asked to use caution while in this area.

Residents are invited to participate as well. Staff and resident volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Douglass Park, 400 N. Providence. Lunch will be provided to those volunteering at noon at the park. The event will conclude after lunch.

In conjunction with Operation Clean Neighborhoods, the Office of Neighborhood Services will place dumpsters in the neighborhood for resident use. Dumpsters will be available through Monday, Sept. 26. City staff will also pick up waste tires from residents in the neighborhood on Friday morning.

The goal of Operation Clean Neighborhoods is to help keep Columbia's neighborhoods clean and provide City employees an opportunity to engage with residents and one another.

Columbia residents
who are interested in volunteering with Operation Clean Neighborhoods or want to learn more about the event should contact the Office of Neighborhood Services at 573.817.5050.
