(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia is currently accepting preliminary applications from individuals and organizations for certain projects that could receive American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.

The City was awarded $25.2 million from the federal government to address the health and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal government has provided guidelines on using the money for categories such as public health, economic impacts, premium pay and investments in infrastructure.

Out of those categories, the Columbia City Council has identified four areas it would like to prioritize with the first half of the funding ($12.6 million). Those priority areas are homelessness, community violence, behavioral crisis care and mental health services, and workforce development.

The City is currently accepting project proposals for community violence an
d workforce development. Funding opportunities for other priority areas will open at a later date.

To access the initial application and additional information about the application process, visit BeHeard.CoMo.gov/ARPA.

The initial applications will close Friday, Nov. 11. Following the close date, applicants will be notified if they are selected to submit a full proposal.

City Council has requested the second half of the funds be allocated to priority areas identified by the community. In June 2022, the City conducted a survey across every section of our community. Following the survey, the City conducted focus groups. The results of the community engagement survey and focus groups will be published Tuesday, Nov. 8.

Applications for project proposals involving the second half of the funding will be open at a later date.
