Columbia Police investigate fatal pedestrian crash in the 3200 block of Clark Lane, Dec. 7

(COLUMBIA, MO) - At approximately 7:15 p.m. officers responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the 3200 block of Clark Lane. Officers arrived on scene and immediately began providing medical assistance to an adult male victim until EMS arrived.

Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his wounds and was declared deceased at the scene. He was later identified as Louis F. Estrada Jr., 63, of Columbia. Next of kin has been notified and the Department extends its condolences to Mr. Estrada’s family and friends.

Through the investigation, the Department’s Traffic Unit determined Mr. Estrada was attempting to cross Clark Lane when he entered the path of an incoming vehicle. The vehicle was traveling eastbound when it struck Mr. Estrada.

The driver of the vehicle has cooperated with officers in this investigation and there are no charges at this time. Further ci
rcumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation by the Department’s Traffic Unit

Taking precautions can save a life. If you’re walking, be alert and take care when crossing the road, especially at night. Wear high-visibility clothing and, where possible, cross streets at crosswalks or intersections.

If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, find a well-lit area of the road where you have a good view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely and then continue watching for traffic as you cross.

Drivers should keep their phones down, eyes on the road and always be aware of pedestrians. Thank you for looking out for each other.
