<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Following a national search, Gabe Huffington has been named as the City of Columbia’s next Parks and Recreation director. Huffington, who was serving as the acting director of the department, will begin the role of director Dec. 25. He will be sworn into the position at the Jan. 17 City Council meeting. <br /><br />Huffington has been serving as the department’s acting director since April 2022. Previously, he served in several positions within the department including golf and sports supervisor, park services manager and assistant director. <br /><br />"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead the Parks and Recreation department with the City of Columbia and look forward to continuing to work with our community to improve the quality of life for our citizens," Huffington said. "I have spent the past 14 years with the department and am excited to cont
 inue to work with our team to provide outstanding parks, trails, programs and special events throughout Columbia."<br /><br />Huffington will be responsible for a park system that encompasses 3,554 acres, 77 parks, 12 indoor recreation facilities, two golf courses, eight aquatic facilities and 62.45 miles of trails.<br /><br />"Gabe is passionate about Columbia’s impressive Parks and Recreation programs and all they bring to the residents and visitors who use them," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "Additionally, he has proven himself to be a capable leader with extensive knowledge in parks services and understands what makes Columbia’s Parks and Recreation department so unique."<br /><br />Huffington holds a master’s degree in business administration, bachelor’s degree in business administration and an associate degree in turf and landscape management.<br /><br />Gabe currently serves as the President of the Missouri
  Park and Recreation Association; has spent eight years as an adjunct professor with the University of Missouri Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Sport Department; and has been an active member of the Columbia Cosmopolitan Luncheon Club since 2015.</div>
