Columbia Police arrest suspect in connection to homicide investigation in the 2400 block of Bentley Court, Jan. 10

(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Jan. 10 at approximately 5:30 p.m. officers with the University of Missouri Police Department were dispatched for a welfare check at Hudson Hall on the University of Missouri campus. The investigation led MUPD to the 2400 block of Bentley Court, where officers located unidentifiable human remains. The circumstances these remains were found in appeared to be suspicious.

At the request of MUPD, the Columbia Police Department responded to the scene to conduct a homicide investigation. The Department’s officers, detectives and crime scene investigators, were able to quickly identify a suspect in this case.

Probable cause was established to arrest Emma Adams, 20, of Columbia for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence and abandonment of a corpse.

Due to the condition the body was found in, there is no way to positively identi
fy the victim at this time. While those investigating the homicide believe they have a good idea of who the victim is, more definitive information needs to be obtained and next of kin needs to be informed before a name can be released. For now, the victim will be referred to as John Doe.

The Department wants to thank members of the community for coming forward with information on this case, as well as for their patience as Columbia Police continue working to identify John Doe. The Department’s detectives will continue to work with MUPD, the medical examiner's office and the prosecutor's office to complete this investigation.

We ask that if you know anything related to this incident, please contact us at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.8477. As always, thanks for helping keep the community safe by sharing what you know.
