<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Members of the public are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting event for Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services' (PHHS) new Health on Wheels Outreach Van at the MU Health Care Pavilion at Clary-Shy Community Park Friday, Jan. 20. The event will begin at noon and members of the public are encouraged to arrive by 11:45 a.m.<br /><br />Boone County Presiding Commissioner Kip Kendrick, Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe, PHHS Director Stephanie Browning and Community Health Worker Supervisor Jennifer Clark-Williams will be speaking at the event.<br /><br />The Health on Wheels Outreach Van will visit communities and events in Columbia and throughout Boone County. As part of a new program, the van will be staffed by community health workers who will help address health issues such as high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, COVID-19 and more. PHHS staff will offer health assessments and provid
e referrals to programs to address an individual's health needs.<br /><br />"This new community Outreach Van has always been a dream for us," Browning said. "It allows Public Health and Human Services to be out in the community, to connect with, and know our neighbors and their health needs. We look forward to serving our community and making health services more convenient and welcoming."<br /><br />The van's artwork, created by former PHHS youth community health worker, Lauren Greene, was designed to represent the people of Boone County. It was created with the intention that they may self-identify with and feel comfortable when approaching the van.<br /><br />Announcements about where the Health on Wheels van will be can be found on the PHHS website and social media accounts.<br /><br /><em>The van was obtained with funds provided by grants from the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Community Health Worker Initiative; and the Local Public Health Disparities Initiative.<
