<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - The Columbia Police Department was notified Jan. 16 that the human remains found at a residence in the 2400 block of Bentley Court on Jan. 10 are those of Samuel Michael Clemons, 21, formerly of Jefferson City and a student at the University of Missouri. Next of kin has been notified.<br /><br />"We extend our condolences to Mr. Clemons family," said Police Chief Geoff Jones. "We will support them by pursuing this investigation to its conclusion, and they will need comfort from their family, friends and community."<br /><br /><strong>Background information:</strong><br /> <br />On Jan. 10 at approximately 5:30 p.m. officers with the University of Missouri Police Department were dispatched for a welfare check at Hudson Hall on the University of Missouri campus. The investigation led MUPD to the 2400 block of Bentley Court, where officers located unidentifiable human remains. The circu
mstances these remains were found in appeared to be suspicious.<br /><br />At the request of MUPD, the Columbia Police Department responded to the scene to conduct a homicide investigation. The Department’s officers, detectives and crime scene investigators were able to quickly identify a suspect in this case.<br /><br />Probable cause was established to arrest Emma Adams, 20, of Columbia for second-degree murder, armed criminal action, tampering with physical evidence and abandonment of a corpse.<br /><br />Due to the condition the body was found in, there was no way to positively identify the victim at the time. Identification required the assistance of the Boone County Medical Examiner.<br /><br />This case continues as an open, active investigation.
