(COLUMBIA, MO) - The City of Columbia is currently accepting applications for its Civic Academy.

The City’s Civic Academy is a free, eight-session interactive program that provides insight to local government services and operations and offers opportunities for civic engagement in the city.

During the eight sessions, participants will receive an overview of city government and its operations. They will also receive presentations from various City departments, tour facilities and parks, and participate in simulations of public safety equipment. The final week of this program will highlight Boone County government operations and elections.

Over the course of eight Thursday-evening sessions, participants will increase their knowledge of the City of Columbia and its services. Applications for the City’s second Civic Academy are open now, and wil
l be accepted until full. Participants will be selected on a first come, first served basis.

Civic Academy is open to Columbia residents 18 years or older. The program is free, but enrollment is limited to 20 participants.

"We saw a lot of interest in our first Civic Academy program this past fall, so we are excited to offer the program again in the spring. I’m thrilled there was such a huge interest. It shows just how eager residents are to learn about their local government and staff is just as eager to engage with the community we serve," said De’Carlon Seewood, Columbia city manager. "Civic Academy gives residents an opportunity to learn about the day to day operations of city government. This is also a great opportunity to meet other like minded individuals as well as learn about volunteer opportunities in the city."

You can visit the City’s website at CoMo.gov/civic-academy/ to apply. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Friday, March 24.

To request a paper application please contact Assistant City Manager Carol Rhodes at 573.874.7219 or Carol.Rhodes@CoMo.gov
