<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones released the following statement on March 20, 2023, regarding the special prosecutor’s decision in an officer-involved shooting in the 4200 block of Clark Lane, Jan. 11, 2023:<br /><br />"On March 20, 2023, I received a copy of Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger’s decision relating to events that occurred when Columbia Police officers intervened to protect members of the public and themselves from an individual armed with a knife. In that encounter, officers discharged their firearms. Jordan Pruyn, 28, of Columbia suffered fatal injuries during the incident.<br /><br />Following protocol when an officer-involved shooting results in a death, immediately after the event an investigation was conducted by the Department’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP). Mr. Shellabarger was appointed special
  prosecutor at the request of the Boone County prosecuting attorney. These are standard practices. <br /><br />In his letter to MSHP Superintendent Col. Eric T. Olson, Special Prosecutor Shellabarger states the officers’ use of lethal force was justified and proper. He considers the case closed.<br /><br />At this time, Columbia Police are not aware of the results of any ballistics investigation or autopsy. Now that this phase of the review has concluded, we will work toward resolution of the Department’s Internal Affairs investigation."<br /><br />
