(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Police have arrested Royelle Dewayne Hunt, 34, and Kentrail Deshawn Taylor, 27, both of Columbia, in connection to the report of shots fired with injuries on April 10 in the 2600 block of Trimble Road.

Hunt was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and tampering with physical evidence. Taylor was arrested for four counts of first-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, property damage and endangering the welfare of a child. Both Hunt and Taylor have been remanded to the custody of the Boone County Jail.

On April 10 at approximately 11:20 a.m. Columbia Police responded to a report of shots fired at the Hy-Vee Gas Station located on Trimble Road. Initial reports indicated an adult male suspect began shooting at another adult male who was armed and wearing body armor.

Both subjects had left in separa
te vehicles before officers arrived on scene. Following their arrival, officers learned that an adult male and an adult female had sought treatment for gunshot wounds at a local hospital. The adult male was later identified as Mr. Hunt.

As a result of their investigation, officers developed probable cause to arrest Mr. Taylor. The Department’s Special Investigations Division later located Mr. Taylor and took him into custody in the 2600 block of Eastwood Drive.

Officers learned that both men were known to each other and that the shooting was a result of a conflict between the two. Violence should never be an option when it comes to resolving a conflict. These kinds of incidents not only put those involved at risk of injury or death, but also put innocent community members at risk of being caught in the crossfire.

Columbia Police want to thank the Missouri Highway Patrol, University of Missouri Police Department, and Boone County Sheriff
for their assistance in responding to this incident.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or CrimeStoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
