<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - City of Columbia City Manager De’Carlon Seewood has named D’Andre Thompson as the City’s first diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) officer. He will begin in the role on May 1. <br /><br />Thompson lives in Columbia and has experience working with partners in the community. He currently works as a program DEI specialist for the Boone County Community Services Department. <br /><br />In his role at the City, he will lead the development and implementation of DEI initiatives that help support the City’s Strategic Plan. <br /><br />"I look forward to seeing the lasting impacts of having a position for the first time at the City of Columbia that is solely focused on DEI work," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "Our DEI officer will first focus on diversity, equity and inclusion within the City as an organization, and then will shift their 
 focus to include the greater Columbia community."<br /><br />Thompson has his Master of Business Administration from Columbia College and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Missouri. <br /><br />"Timing is everything, especially when you're trying to introduce something new. The City of Columbia understood that there was a need to seriously evaluate the current landscape of its operations and interactions with the public as it relates to big picture strategic planning and determining meaningful goals," Thompson said. "By introducing the inaugural diversity, equity, and inclusion officer position through the City Manager's Office, the City of Columbia has made a commitment to ensuring its big picture strategic planning and goals are emblematic of equity and inclusivity. I'm honored to serve my community in this capacity and look forward to building rapport that will ultimately lead to transformational change!" </div>
