<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones will retire from the City of Columbia effective Aug. 1, 2023, after more than 24 years with the Department. <br /><br />Jones began his time at the Columbia Police Department as a police cadet while attending Rock Bridge High School. <br /><br />Jones then attended the University of Central Missouri and graduated with a BS in Criminal Justice. In 2012, Jones received a MS in Criminal Justice from Lincoln University.<br /><br />In 1998 Jones returned to CPD as a patrol officer. During his time at CPD, he has worked as a narcotics detective, police sergeant, lieutenant and an interim police chief. In 2019 Jones began working as chief of police. <br /><br />"I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to lead and learn from such driven and passionate people who work at CPD," Jones said. "Serving as police chief has been an incredi
 ble experience, and I am proud to have been part of the team who works every day to protect our citizens. I also want to thank the community for the support I have received throughout my time in the Department."<br /><br />City Manager De’Carlon Seewood will be evaluating the process used to choose Columbia’s next police chief. <br /><br />"Geoff has brought so much to the community during his time with the Columbia Police Department," City Manager Seewood said. "He has worked incredibly hard to ingrain a high level of professionalism and customer service in the department, and he has prioritized engaging with the community. I thank him for his many years of service to Columbia." <br /><br /></div>
