(COLUMBIA, MO) - City of Columbia Water & Light has issued a precautionary boil advisory for the neighborhoods of Thornbrook, Wyndham Ridge, Creek’s Edge, Bradbury Estates and parts of Copperstone due to a water main break that occurred near the intersection of Vawter School Road and Scott Boulevard. Affected customers have been notified by a phone call.

Pressure data loggers in the area alerted Water & Light to a pressure drop below 20 pounds per square inch (PSI) in the area, a level at which the Missouri Department of Natural Resources requires municipal water systems to issue a precautionary boil advisory.

Water & Light identified a 16-inch water main as the issue and is on site making necessary repairs. Water pressure has returned to normal levels for all affected customers. The precautionary boil advisory will expire on June 21, at 2 p.m.

Res
idents in the affected area should:

1) Boil water for three minutes prior to using it for cooking or drinking.

2) Do not consume ice from an automatic ice maker. Remake ice with water that has been boiled for three minutes.

3) Disinfect affected dishes and food contact surfaces by immersing for one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented bleach per gallon of water.
