<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px;  margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Installation of speed humps on South Garth Avenue scheduled for July 7-8</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Beginning Friday, July 7, City of Columbia Public Works crews will be installing speed humps on South Garth Avenue. The speed humps are part of an effort to reduce speeds in the area, which in the results of a traffic study were found to be unsafe.<br /><br />Signs and flaggers will be present to assist drivers traveling through the work zone. No street closures will be necessary, but drivers should be prepared to expect delays and find alternative routes if possible.<br /><br />The first interested parties meeting to discuss placement of the South Garth Avenue speed humps was held May 9, 2022, and the second interested parties meeting was held Oct. 25, 2022. A public hearing was held Jan. 17, 2023. The cost of the project is $30,000, paid with funds obtained from the 2015 capital improvements sales tax. <br /><br />Location plans for the South Garth Avenue speed humps, curb ramp and crosswalk
  are attached to this press release.<br /><br />Public Works provides traffic calming solutions such as speed humps where appropriate in order to influence driver behavior and create more livable neighborhood streets. Staff works closely with neighborhood residents to properly identify their concerns, conduct appropriate studies to quantify any problems, and develop strategies to moderate traffic speeds and reduce the number and severity of collisions should they occur. It is the goal of Public Works to find ways to address as many issues as feasible each year. More information on Public Works' traffic calming policies can be found at <a style="white-space:nowrap" href="https://www.como.gov/public-works/street-division/traffic-management/neighborhood-traffic-management/">CoMo.gov/public-works/street-division/traffic-management/neighborhood-traffic-management/</a>.<br /><br />The installation of the speed humps is scheduled to be completed by 5 p.m. Saturday, July 8, weather p
