<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - Matt Stephens, currently assistant chief of the Columbia Police Department’s (CPD) Special Services Bureau, will begin serving in the role of interim police chief July 31. Stephens will fill the role as current Chief Geoff Jones retires effective Aug. 1. <br /><br />"I am thankful that Stephens has agreed to step into this role in this time of transition for the City of Columbia," City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said. "He has proven his ability as an effective leader, and I am confident he will help make this transition as smooth as possible for the Department and the City."<br /><br />Stephens is a Columbia native and a graduate of Hickman High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia College and his master’s degree in sociology/criminal justice from Lincoln University. <br /><br />Stephens has b
