<div style="font-size: 110%; line-height:150%;"><h1 style="clear:both; margin-top: 75px; margin-bottom: 10px; font-weight: bold; font-size: 130%;">Columbia Police release information regarding officer-involved shooting in the 300 block of Campusview Drive, Aug. 4</h1>
<div class="content"><span style="padding-left: 50px;">(COLUMBIA, MO)</span> - <p style="display:inline;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">At approximately 3:05 p.m. on Aug. 4 Columbia Police responded to a suicidal subject call in the 300 block of Campusview Drive. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject, who said he was not suicidal.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At approximately 3:57 p.m. officers returned to the area in response to the subject’s request for officer contact. Upon arrival, officers located the subject who was in possession of a firearm. Officers attempted to get the subject to surrender his weapon. The subject fired multiple rounds in the air and then fired multiple rounds at officers. In response, officers returned fire, resulting in the subject’s death.<br /><br /></span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">"There are multiple people affected when events like this occur, and we have to find ways to support each other," said Assistant Chief Lance Bolinger. "I would like to thank the residents who patiently waited for our officers on scene to address the situation, as well as the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Columbia Fire Department, University Hospital EMS and Emergency Department staff for assisting us."</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At this time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting a criminal investigation while CPD runs its Internal Affairs Investigation concurrently. This is an ongoing investigation. More information may become available later. Although the department will not speak about specific personnel actions or disclose investigative information, it is CPD’s practice to place officers who are directly involved in these incidents on administrative leave, pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations.</span></p>
